The Veslemøy High – Barents Sea

Project Description

Exploration of the Barents Sea has historically proven challenging and at times disappointing but there are some remarkable exceptions. The Skrugard prospect, for example, later part of the Johan Castberg field, identified by a double flat spot or the famous Wisting prospect with its exceptionally strong EM anomaly are cases which have returned the exploration spotlight back to the Barents.

These well-known exceptions, among others, provide excellent reasons to persevere.

In support of exploration of the Barents GeoProvider has built a database of more than 70,000 km of Broadband reprocessed seismic extending across the region.

In addition, high specification 3D reprocessing of 900 sqkm of seismic over the Veslemøy High, to the west of Johan Castberg, has revealed exciting evidence of prospectivity.

The data shows strong hydrocarbon indicators over a 340 square km closure.  Reported seabed hydrocarbon leaks recorded in the area as well as advanced analysis of mud gas data from nearby wells provides further evidence supporting interest in the area.

Could there really be a sleeping giant west of Johan Castberg?
